Adult Cognitive Assessment

A cognitive assessment, sometimes referred to as an IQ test, helps you understand how your brain processes information. It identifies strengths and challenges in areas like memory, attention, reasoning, and problem-solving, providing a detailed picture of your cognitive profile.

Adults may seek cognitive assessments to:

• Understand why they’re having difficulties at work, in study, or in daily life
• Explore suspected intellectual disability, giftedness, or varied ability
• Identify executive functioning, memory, or processing issues
• Support applications for workplace adjustments or NDIS funding
• Gain self-understanding and improve performance in specific areas

Our Adult Cognitive Assessment Package includes:

• A developmental interview to explore your history and current concerns
• Standardised testing using the WAIS-IV (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – Fourth Edition)
• An adaptive behaviour assessment (Vineland-3)
• A feedback session to review results and recommendations
• A comprehensive written report with your results, any relevant diagnosis, and strategies for support or further referrals

Yes. If cognitive difficulties are impacting your performance, your report can be used to request reasonable adjustments such as:

• Extra time or alternative formats for tasks
• Use of assistive technology
• Modified workloads

Yes. The WAIS-IV helps determine whether a person falls within the typical, below average, or gifted range of functioning. A diagnosis of intellectual disability typically requires both low cognitive functioning and difficulties in daily living, which is why we also use the Vineland-3.

Not at all. Some people are simply curious about how they think and learn. Others want to better understand their strengths and support needs to make informed decisions about work, education, or personal growth.

Yes. You may experience challenges with attention, memory, or processing that are not linked to a specific diagnosis. The assessment can clarify whether your difficulties are part of a broader condition or occur independently and will offer practical strategies either way.

Some components (e.g. the developmental interview) can be completed via telehealth. However, WAIS-IV testing must be conducted in-person to meet standardised administration and ensure accuracy.

The assessment is typically completed over two sessions:

1. Intake & testing session
2. Feedback session

Your comprehensive report is usually delivered within 1 month of your final appointment.

Our Adult Cognitive Assessment is $1,680, including all sessions, assessments, and your report.

No referral is needed. However, if you’re planning to access therapy sessions with Medicare rebates afterwards, you may need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP.
