Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs an ADHD assessment?
Consider an ADHD assessment if your child often:
- Struggles to focus or pay attention
- Acts impulsively or speaks without thinking
- Is constantly moving or restless
- Has difficulty following instructions or completing tasks
- Experiences emotional outbursts or low frustration tolerance
These behaviours need to be consistent, long-standing, and occur in multiple settings (e.g., home and school).
What is included in an ADHD assessment for children and teens?
Our ADHD assessment includes:
• Developmental and diagnostic interview using the ACE
• Parent and teacher input
• Executive functioning assessment (Brown EF/A Scales)
• Behavioural questionnaires (Conners 4)
• Optional cognitive assessment (WPPSI-IV or WISC-V)
• Feedback session
• Comprehensive written report including diagnosis (if applicable) and recommendations
Can ADHD look different in girls?
Yes. Girls are more likely to present with inattentive traits (e.g. daydreaming, disorganisation) rather than hyperactivity. As a result, ADHD is often missed in girls until academic or emotional challenges become more obvious.
Does an ADHD assessment screen for other conditions too?
Yes. Many children with ADHD also experience anxiety, learning difficulties, or emotional regulation challenges. Our assessment helps clarify what’s contributing to your child’s difficulties.
What if my child shows some ADHD traits but not enough for a diagnosis?
It’s common for children to have traits of ADHD without meeting the full criteria. Your psychologist will explain your child’s strengths and challenges and suggest practical strategies even if a diagnosis isn’t given.
How much does an ADHD assessment cost?
Our Child & Teen ADHD Assessment starts at $1,680.
A cognitive assessment can be added for $960 if additional insight is needed.
Can an ADHD diagnosis help with school support?
Yes. If your child is diagnosed, the report can be used to request classroom adjustments, learning support, and behaviour management plans.
