Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cognitive assessment for children?
A cognitive assessment (sometimes called an IQ test) evaluates how your child learns, thinks, and processes information. It provides a profile of their strengths and challenges across areas such as memory, reasoning, attention, and processing speed.
Why might my child need a cognitive assessment?
You might consider this assessment if your child:
• Is struggling at school or not meeting milestones
• Is suspected of having an intellectual disability or giftedness
• Has learning or memory difficulties
• Needs support with NDIS or school accommodations
What does a cognitive assessment involve?
Our cognitive assessment process involves:
- Developmental interview
- Standardised testing using WPPSI-IV or WISC-V
- Adaptive behaviour assessment (Vineland-3) and/or behavioural questionnaire (Conners-CBRS)
- Feedback session
- Comprehensive report
Can my child have thinking or memory challenges without a diagnosis?
Yes. Some children have specific cognitive difficulties without meeting criteria for ADHD, autism, or a learning disorder. The assessment still provides insight and practical support recommendations.
How much does a cognitive assessment cost?
Our Child & Teen Cognitive Assessment is $1,680, including all sessions, testing, and your report.
Can a cognitive assessment support a diagnosis or NDIS application?
Yes. The assessment can support diagnostic clarification and provide evidence for funding or school-based support where applicable.
